 A Testimony from Our Founder

Our ministry’s founder, Debbie Browne, shares her personal Good News testimony of how the Truth has set her free.

My Beginning, My Today, and My Tomorrow

One of the most powerful scenes in the Bible is one you don’t hear much about.

In fact, I don’t think I’ve ever listened to a sermon on it. Yet, we should consider ourselves as being a part of this scene.

Allow me to bring you into this story found in Luke 23:32-43:

“Two others, both criminals, were led out to be executed with Jesus. When they came to a place called The Skull, they nailed Him to the cross. And the criminals were also crucified—one on his right and one on his left.”

“One of the criminals hanging beside Him scoffed, “So you’re the Messiah, are you? Prove it by saving yourself—and us, too, while you’re at it!” But the other criminal protested, “Don’t you fear God even when you have been sentenced to die? We deserve to die for our crimes, but this man hasn’t done anything wrong.” Then He said, “Jesus, remember me when you come into your Kingdom. And Jesus replied, “I assure you, today you will be with me in paradise.”

What did this man have ‘to do’ to join Jesus in paradise? He simply had to realize Jesus did nothing to deserve death, and yet Jesus was dying a miserable death next to hardened criminals. Their penalty was justified; Jesus’ sentence was not.

The one thief saw the great love and sacrifice, but the other saw entitlement. This criminal thought God loved everybody. So, after all, he was guaranteed paradise while the other felt unworthy.

In my lifetime, I have been both criminals. As a child, I wanted to join Jesus in His kingdom with my family. Then, in my teenage and young adult years, I wanted nothing to do with Him and organized religion. I questioned whether it was true. Looking back, I see the amount of wasted time, the hurts I caused others, and the consequences I paid.

However, in 1981, a miracle took place in my life as I began to fear God and cry out, ‘Remember me!’ This fear was the realization I could never be God. Who was I to think I could receive full rights to the eternal things God had in store for me? I couldn’t seem to weigh the scales in my favor.

All other world religions taught me to measure up towards the goal to be good, for that is when I can achieve god status. However, is our definition of “good” the same as God’s? Or does He view my good equivalent as a criminal? It began to bother me. I could never be 100% sure this belief was true. I hoped it to be correct, but I never had the peace I could be good enough. It became an exhausting effort — a ladder with no end.

I do want to join Him because I realize there is no one other than God. He is my beginning, my today, and my tomorrow, and the only requirements He asks for me to do is:

1. Agree that I deserve to die; Jesus didn’t. Romans 2:23 says, “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.”

2. Believe that Jesus paid the price for my sin. He willingly became my substitute. “But God demonstrates His own love for us in this: while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” Romans 5:8

3. Confess that I need Jesus to see paradise after this life. “If you confess with your mouth that ‘Jesus is Lord’ and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.” Romans 10:9

It’s just that simple to secure your relationship with God, accept His Son, Jesus, who has already paid the cost for you. Jesus did away with the Good Ruler to measure our goodness when He chose to die and was raised to a new life to become our Ruler. This acceptance took me from organized religion to a personal relationship, which showed me what true love is. It has made a difference in my life to toss my good ruler and hang on to The Ruler.

Some say to me, “Well, I’ll wait to have that discussion with Jesus when I know I’m dying because I like living my life the way I want. All of this talk about being a sinner is crazy to me. Besides, there are many ways to get to Heaven.

After all, if God is so loving, why would He send anybody to Hell?” Hmm, good question.

I believe God sent Jesus so no one would have to pay the criminal’s death who felt entitled. It’s everyone’s individual choice, and I’d rather make it as soon as possible and not count on my last breathe experience to reconcile. Plus, I know the joy of living a life when you know the Truth who sets you free.

John 3:16 says, “For God so loved the world that He gave His only Son that whoever believes in Him will not perish but have everlasting life.” I believe that everlasting life begins the minute you Agree, Believe, and Confess.

I encourage you that if you have done this, then pray this simple prayer to Him:

“Lord, I know I haven’t lived a perfect life, and I know that Jesus did. Thank You for allowing Your Son to be the substitute for me, who deserves to pay the penalty of death. It’s hard to believe You and Jesus could love me that much, and to think Your Son, Jesus, defeated death gives me hope that I will, too. Thank You for what You have already done for me. Please take over my thoughts, my actions, and my life. Raise me from the dead, too. I want to be alive again in this life and in the one to come. Amen.”

If you prayed this prayer, reach out to us, and we will lift you in prayer as you start your new walk with Christ. Our Prayer Warriors are standing by at the ready! We are here for you!

Since May 18, 1981, for almost 40 years, my life has never been the same. I’ve been consistent in my faith as I continue to grow more and more into understanding and wisdom. He can change your life journey, too, if you say, “Remember me!”
